This is a story I've heard from my Grandma! She knew so many stories, I wish to know at least half of them, but just don't remember them all... My Grandma was a great story teller, I miss her a lot sometimes. She knew many old Sagas, stories popular in here, but also her own, some of them were real, some partly real, but with fairy elements, some other just fairy tales.
There's a bread instead of the rose in original story, but rose is more romantic i think
Sorry for my english, But this story goes like that more or less as I remember.
It's a story about Girl name Ærndís. Her husband Eiðr sailed out to sea, but never return, only his destroyed ship was found. Ærndís waiting for him everyday on the shore with the loaf of bread, to feed him after long trip. Some villagers laughed at her, some other feel sorry for her because they were sure Eiðr is dead, and never return. Ærndís cried loud, at then 2 raven brothers appear. She ask them to find her beloved Eiðr. Ravens flew away. AFter some time first raven appear. Ærndís ask him "Did you found my Eiðr?" and bird said: "He's in the cold sea dephts where is dark, forget about him, because he is lost forever" Girl cried, but said: "No, I will never forget, I will never give up hope!" Then another raven came. Ærndís ask him "Did you found my Eiðr?" Bird said: I flew over the mountains high, I flew over the seas so deep, I flew over the woods I flew over the ice and fire, and yes I found him!". Where?! Ærndís ask, Raven answer: In here, he's in the warm place full of love. Girl was shocked, she look around, but there was no sign of her beloved. Ærndís looked at the bird and said: I can't see him where is he?" Bird said: He's right here with you. Look into your heart, he's there, as long your memories about him will be strong he will be with you as it is now. Now go, return your home, and live your life in happiness, because Eiðr will be with you forever.
Thisis one of my favourite stories. IDk if this story is know around the world or not, My Grandma knew many stories, but also invented her own.
